Weaving on an architectural scale
Tow videos today about the work of Laura Ellen Bacon, a British artist who creates large scale woven sculptures from a variety of materials.
The first video shows two large-scale works in red willow at The Arts & Crafts House in England's Lake District. These curvaceous structures, bonded to the building and the retaining wall of one of the garden terraces can be seen until the end of September 2012.
The next video shows Laura working with polypropylene ribbon on steel frames for an installation at the BLINK festival in the Market Square at Northampton in 2010.

Based in Florence, some of their pieces incorporate the work of Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, along with other local influences. Here is a sample of their inspirational work.

Underwater sculpture installation
British sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor has fused art and conservation to build an artificial reef using hundreds of life-sized statues of real people. The life casts are made from materials that encourage coral growth and form an underwater installation on the sea bed off the coast of Cancun, Mexico.

Sculpture from single sheets of paper
Here is an interesting presentation of sculptures that have eash been cut from a single sheet of paper. The video doesn't seem to credit the maker, but it would seem to be the work of Peter Callesen who says "paper cut sculptures explore the probable and magical transformation of the flat sheet of paper into figures that expand into the space surrounding them".

Flexible, folded-paper surface
Here is a video showing a piece of paper being folded into an interesting textured surface that is quite flexible. It looks interesting to play with, and I wonder how big a surface one could make. I'm also asking myself if several of these surfaces could be used to make a large abstract sculpture of some sort. Maybe some sort of kinetic art? What if the paper was reflective? Or coloured using the polymorph technique used in Rainbow Rhythm? Lots of possibilities, so take a look and let me know what ideas you have!
Rainbow Rythm
Rainbow Rythm is a Polymorph by Yaacov Agam. In this technique an image is presented in triangular relief, and depending on the relative position of the viewer, different images are presented. The viewer has to move position to see the whole artwork.
